A SYMPHONY FOR A COMMON MAN

The Iraq War, launched by the U.S. under the false claim of weapons of mass destruction, led to immense devastation and loss of life. Brazilian diplomat José Bustani, then Director-General of the OPCW, sought to bring Iraq into compliance with chemical weapons regulations. As he neared success, the U.S., driven by its own interests, pressured Bustani to abandon his efforts and ultimately forced his removal through false accusations. Now retired, Bustani reflects on the missed chance to prevent the war and the misuse of power that led to his ousting.
